Williamstown Timeball- 21st May 2022 at 10:00am
Hobsons Bay Arts Society (HBAS), with the support of the Hobsons Bay Council through its Make it Happen Grants Program, and in partnership with local historical and environmental groups is proud to lead the delivery of the “Seeing Our Home” program. This project brings together local residents with art instructors, local historians, and community groups to use theme-based urban sketching to deepen our understanding of the wonderful community in which we live. The program consists of on-site presentations from local experts followed by an instructor-guided sketching workshop. For our seventh “Seeing Our Home” Community Urban Sketching event we will be venturing into the core of our State's history with the Williamstown Historical society as our hosts at the iconic Williamstown Timeball. Williamstown played a central role in the development of our state and the Timeball, originally a lighthouse, was a critical part of the infrastructure, safeguarding the passage of ships, which was a key lifeline for the State. It served this role both as a lighthouse and as a timekeeper essential for the ship's navigation. Set in the wonderful Point Gellibrand Coastal Heritage Park the Timeball and the surrounding area is rich in sketching and painting opportunities and is an ideal location for our history presentation and sketching workshop. We will be guided through a presentation on the Timeball and then we will have the distinguished watercolourist, Ted Dansey, lead a sketching workshop focusing on some of the key scenes in the area.
The program will be open to all levels of experience, particularly encouraging beginners. The activity will start with a 20-minute presentation followed by a 45 minute guided sketching workshop led by Ted. There are a very limited number of tickets available to attend onsite, click on the registration link on this page to secure your ticket Registration for Williamstown Timeball the onsite event For those who are not able to be at the Timeball, you will be able to view a recording of the presentation and the sketching workshop at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/4604561342916269 We want to make sure that no one misses out on this exceptional experience.
