I was never interested in art, until recently.
4 years ago I had a chance to go back to Japan to look after my mum, who lost her mobility due to a brain tumour. It was very limited what she could do, so I organised an art teacher to come to mum’s house to teach her watercolour painting, as I remembered that she mentioned to me when she was in hospital that she wanted to do water colour painting. I thought I may take the class as well because I was always with her. The sessions were very relaxed, chatting with the teacher for 2 hours every fortnight, getting advice here and there, and my mum was just painting freely, totally ignoring the teacher’s instructions. It was really good for both of us that we could focus on something else other than her illness.
After I came back to Australia, I started attending Gaye’s social art group and it was an eye-opening experience. There were many talented people, some were experienced and professional, however, some said they started painting only recently. I was amazed and felt like maybe I might have a chance to create artwork, too. They inspired me and everyone was so supportive. This year I took Gaye’s class “ taste of arts” and I was exposed to various mediums. I enjoyed this variety. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Gaye, she has been very patient with me and encouraging me so much.
Since I joined HBAS, I was given more opportunities to attend workshops, exhibitions and meeting other artists. I am not spending enough time to paint and draw for myself, but enjoying immersing myself in this art community.
This is only the beginning of my art journey. I am looking forward to exploring all sorts of mediums and subjects.
