Featured Artist: Michele Tirman-Olsen
My inspiration for All Things Art came from my Father. He used to send letters to his mother & then my mother with caricatures & cartoons all through them (Some of which I have framed and hanging in my house). I loved to read the letters and see the visuals dispersed through his words. His letters captivated me as did his drawings.
I am a self taught artist and believe my motivation to paint comes from the people I encounter. I think the Human Face is extremely interesting and an intriguing landscape so I gravitate towards painting faces, of people I know and those I don’t. I call myself an “Experimental Artist” because that is what I am. I use all kinds of media from acrylics, watercolours, pencils, finger paints, anything I can get my hands on, I will use.
My style varies...I went through a “Picasso” period where everything was wonky. I then became infatuated with Ladies in hats and loved the fashion of bygone eras. I also worked on a “People and their Pets series” as so often pets resemble their owners. I now have several groups of paintings that reflet these phases of focus and different styles. I like to play with colours and see how they interact and how colours make things pop out.
I was born into an American Military Family and have lived in Germany, England, Italy, France, USA, Canada, Belgium and now, for the past 15 years in Williamstown, Vic. I recently joined the Hobsons Bay Art Society and the paining of my mom won best in show in the HobArchies competition. I was flabbergasted and so honoured. It meant so much to me as she had recently passed away.
I now have a devoted art studio room in my house so I am overrun with paintings, much to my husbands dismay. We have quite a group of painted faces all around us! I’ve also created greeting cards from some of my painting.
