Mairead Ashcroft

Mairead Ashcroft uses creative modalities of many kind in her work as a Trauma Informed Counsellor, Art Therapist and Animal assisted Psychotherapist. She is in her seventh year of providing Non-for-Profit Group Mental Health Care at the Louis Joel Arts and Community Centre using Creative Arts Processes including image making, clay work, creative writing, movement, music and numerous forms of craft.
Mairead uses the tools that she teaches to understand the needs of her clients by creating alcohol ink images on Yupo paper. She then carves out parts that seem irrelevant, keeping each piece for further analysis and enhances the parts that tell a story. This method of processing offers Mairead a deeper understanding of her client’s needs and enriches treatment plans. The images are often gifted to her long-term clients when sessions come to a close.
