Christmas breakup at Truganina Homestead Dec 6th 2014
Members enjoyed a great day of companionship and entertainment at the Truganina Homestead.
The shabby weather improved steadily and by afternoon was perfect. A special mention to all the ladies who prepared salads and desserts to compliment the fine BBQ cooked by Ted Peck and John Burnet. Many members brought along art materials to swap or sell. Books, DVD's framing materials, watercolour paper and more all contributed immensely to the days interest. A very special appearance by the highly sought after "Ukulele Dolls" reduced in numbers but not in performance was a highlight of the day and greatly appreciated by everyone.
Just in time for sweets, local councillors Colleen Gates (Mayor/Wetlands), Sandra Wilson (Cherry Lakes) and Jason Price (Cherry Lakes) dropped in to meet and chat with the members.

Watercolour Workshop with David Taylor June 2014
Twelve very enthusiastic watercolour students enjoyed a full on weekend with world renowned artist David Taylor. After painting and teaching from 9.30 till 4.00 pm on both days the freshest person in the room was David himself. His endless energy and passion for watercolour is amazing.
Each of the twelve painters from fresh face beginners to established artist received some one on one time. After confirming the problems that each student hope to address, David complete a demonstration scene that covered most of the requests and spent a great deal of his time working one on one in an attempt to improve as many weaknesses as time would permit. After two full days David had completed about six demonstrations and two completed paintings. Everybody who attended thoroughly enjoyed the weekend although most were ready for sleep by Sunday night.
We can't thank David Taylor enough for making himself available during his busy worldwide workshop program.
David's program includes preparing paintings for the prestigious Camberwell Rotary Art Show and the Melbourne Twenty exhibition in June before travelling to workshops in NSW, China, North America, the UK, Spain, Italy before returning to Melbourne about October. Its a tough life isn't it.

Ray Hewitt explains that not everything is as simple as black and white
Society member and highly awarded oil painter Ray Hewitt gave a very informative demonstration on the importance of understanding and learning the value scale of the basic black to white tones. After a detailed explanation of how to create nine tones of grey from pure black to white, Ray demonstrated by recreating a subject he had worked on previously using only black and white oils. Ray urged all artists to practise their tonal scales until it becomes second nature to match tone in their paintings
