Featured Artist of September 2019:
Lorraine Rogers

I developed a love of textile arts about fifteen years ago. My grandchildren are my favourite subject and I have made quite a few textile portraits of them over recent years. Around Altona area there is so much to explore with our beaches and wetlands, lake and birdlife. I always carry my camera with the hope of capturing the next inspiration. In textile art I am mainly self-taught, watercolour painting is not so easy and I hope to return to a local class in the near future.
I always work from my own photographs for my art work.
Textile Art quilts:
I mainly use my own dyed fabrics, some that I have shibori dyed. Other fabrics I use are silks, commercial cottons, tulle, recycled clothing from local opportunity shops and fabrics from discontinued decorator sample books.
For special highlights I will use ink pens and oil paint sticks. I then quilt an overall design and add special features with thread stitching.
