24/06/2013: TO INFINITY AND BEYOND
HBAS Member and well known Artist and Teacher Karin Zeller got more than she ever hoped for in her wildest dreams when she received an electronic correspondence request from Milan Nykodym, a pilot of the Czech Air Force Gripen, seeking permission for the use of her Tiger artwork for the tail of their NATO Tiger Meet Gripen aircraft. Karin Zeller an established Artist in her own right with a strong online presence, well known in and around the Art circles was profoundly delighted at the request. The use of Karin's artwork on the Czech Air Force Gripen aircraft was a great success and privilege which will be remembered for many years to come - Well done Karin!.

22/04/2013: HBAS ACTIVITY NIGHT DEMONSTRATION WITH LINDA MEZZETTI
HBAS members were treated to a special evening when HBAS Artist Linda Mezzetti gave a talk and demonstration on her amazing silk paintings. Linda is a self taught artist who uses acrylic and mixed media in painting, she enjoys painting directly onto silk and scarves with explosions of colors, overlapping tones and blending hues. Linda's paintings are so inviting that you want to touch them and feel the texture, Linda enjoys giving the silk a feeling of movement and sensuality, continually taking her results to a new level.
Originally Canadian and having lived in Southern USA, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, the UK and now Australia, Linda has been greatly inspired by all her travels. Linda spends alot of time observing how light reflects off various objects in and around us and how skies differ from the cold and crisp north to the still and warm south. Linda wants her paintings to evoke a feeling or a memory and often uses everyday things such as sand, tissue, paper, onion sacs and rope to produce texture. Linda feels that people can relate to this and are pleasantly surprised to see them transformed into intriguing paintings which merit some studying rather than a quick glance. A wonderful demonstration enjoyed by all, thank you Linda. Enquiries please contact Linda Mezzetti at lindamezzetti@hotmail.com . Photographs courtesy N. Belyea, K. Craggs and L. Mezzetti.

23/03/2013: ALTONA BEACH FESTIVAL - HBAS'S FESTIVITIES
AHOY THERE, ME HEARTIES.... was the flavour for this year’s Altona Beach Festival as the Hobsons Bay Arts Society strutted and docked their ship on mainland Esplanade, Altona in preparation for the festival’s annual parade down Esplanade and Pier Streets, Altona. The Hobsons Bay Arts Society, previously known as the Altona Artists Association was founded and established by Joan & Derek Craggs in 1978 and has been holding regular exhibitions, classes and activities within the municipality for over 30 years.
The HBAS well known for its highly skilled Artists, friendly atmosphere and diversity of workshops, sailed down the Esplanade into Pier Street to a welcoming audience of cheer and applaud in a spectacular pirate ship display of solidarity. Hand built by HBAS’s very own Ted Peck with the assistance of member volunteers, was led through the streets of Altona by Kirsten Craggs. Pirates young and old battled rocks, high winds and heavy seas finally coming to rest at Logan’s Reserve, Altona, where the Society’s most famous ship came under siege and mutiny, battered and bruised it was forced to surrender to a new Captain.
Other activities held by the HBAS during the festival included workshops at Louis Joel Gallery, HBAS Marquee demonstrations at Logans Reserve and Hidden Treasure Exhibition at Joel Gallery, Altona.
