Featured Artist: Sheree McCrum

I am Sheree McCrum, a locally based artist who has loved living in Melbourne for over 40 years and Seabrook for over 30 years. The lifestyle and the weather was so similar to my original home California it made the transition from America to Australia almost seamless. I migrated in 1981 as a fashion designer. I was fortunate to design and supply many of the large retailers and smaller boutiques all around Australia, both with my own label as well as designing for larger manufacturers.
After retirement I decided to learn to draw and paint. I have always been creative but had never taken formal lessons. I started with the Paul Borg Art School which really improved my skills as well as my confidence in my abilities. I now take classical art classes at Atelier Melbourne Art Academy, where I am learning classical drawing, painting and sculpture. I enjoy drawing portraits of family and friends, as well as landscapes and still life. My charcoal portrait of Uncle Jack Charles recently was chosen as the people’s choice in The HobArchies 2022. I draw in charcoal and pastels mostly because they are quick but I mostly enjoy painting in oils.
