Featured Artist of December 2018 -- Franciska Howard
I have always been very interested in art, and at a young age was constantly holding colour pencils in hand. At high school, my favourite subject of course was art, my art even featured a few times over the years in the school magazine. I probably would have continued with art, however I met my husband and had three beautiful children, they were extremely busy times, but also very fulfilling.
Approximately 9 years ago a dear friend of mine started talking about her paintings. I was very excited to learn of her ability, and I told her I also loved art. She suggested we go to Bill Kerr’s art class on a Tuesday morning, and there my passion for painting was ignited once again. I started off painting in acrylics, but very soon progressed to oils, I find oils have a greater depth of colour and are less erratic than acrylics. I enjoy painting various subject matters from landscapes, to animals, and the occasional portrait, which I have done on commission. I do find that portraits are a bit more challenging, but they can also be so rewarding when you manage to capture the likeness of that person.
I still have so much to learn, and when I’m not painting, I’m searching through Pinterest, googling artists or going on You tube, watching tutorials. I am thoroughly enjoying the journey to discover how I would like to express myself as an artist, which I am finding is something that seems to be forever evolving.
