Costal Wetlands -  19th March 2022

Picture
Hobsons Bay Arts Society (HBAS), with the support of the Hobsons Bay Council through its Make it Happen Grants Program, and in partnership with local historical and environmental groups is proud to lead the delivery of the “Seeing Our Home” program. This project brings together local residents with art instructors, local historians, and community groups to use theme-based urban sketching to deepen our understanding of the wonderful community in which we live. Due to the current COVID situation, this months program consists of a live online presentation from a local expert followed by an online instructor-guided sketching workshop.

For our Sixth “Seeing Our Home” Community Urban Sketching event we will be in Hobsons Bay's internationally recognised Costal  Wetlands with the Hobsons Bay Wetlands Centre as our host. This majestic set of wetlands with its diverse bird population and flora, set against the background of Port Phillip Bay and the Melbourne skyline provides a subtle and inspirational setting for the sketching workshop. We will be guided through a presentation on the nature and importance of these precious wetlands by Gordon Lescinsky, from the Hobsons Bay Wetlands Centre Committee. We will then have the distinguished watercolourist, Ted Dansey, lead a sketching workshop focusing on some of the key scenes in the area. (See images below).

The program will be open to all levels of experience, particularly encouraging beginners. The activity will start with a 20-minute presentation followed by a 45 minute guided sketching workshop led by Ted. You can attend the event virtually through our online portal. You can register through Eventbrite for the onsite or the virtual events, just follow the links below.  With the online experience,  you can watch the presentations and participate in the sketching workshops from the comfort of your home through our Facebook Event page.

  • Registration for the onsite event at the Hobsons Bay Wetlands
  • Registration for Virtual online event

If for any reason the onsite event is cancelled (and we have had a few COVID driven changes) then everyone will be notified to meet online and we will hold the event via the HBAS Facebook event site (details will be sent to you).

Looking forward to seeing you onsite or online!
