There was with a lot of enthusiasm at Woods Street Art Space on Saturday morning when we eagerly awaited our workshop with Janet Knight, a well renowned Werribee artist. We were all excited to use a new substrate which was a natural coloured linen canvas!
Janet distributed photo taken in Italy that featured of a set of steps flanked by some large pots. There was nothing remarkable about the photo but she endeavoured to change an ordinary looking photo into a stunning ‘vignette’ (a small illustration or portrait which fades into its background without a definite border).
Janet encouraged us to sketch out the focal areas of the subject blurring the edges and capturing and emphasising a small part of the picture. We all managed to do that and then following her demo and her instructions, we all were able to successfully produced a vignette (vin-yet).
How exciting- a new linen canvas, a simple painting lots of clear instruction and a lovely impressionist painting to take home! I am certain all 12 participants gained a lot from this experience. Thank you Janet for an enjoyable art experience!
