MEET THE ARTIST David Becerra
David Becerra is a Colombian artist working in Painting, Illustration and Design.
David also works with the artistic group “Sesame Street Fighter” (SSF) in Melbourne, which is focused on minimizing the isolation of some vulnerable social groups, using symbolism as a bridge between cultures, as well as focusing on the diffusion of fine art through unconventional spaces.
In 2012, David got his degree in fine arts in Bogotá-Colombia where he was awarded with an academic scholarship for his artistic abilities and creativity.
From 2007 to 2010 David worked as an illustrator for children’s books, editorials and comic books, working closely with the creative and design department. This gave David a new point of view about image as a powerful tool of communication. Some of his most relevant editorials were for McGraw Hill from New York and Pan Americana Inc. Editorial from Puerto Rico.
In 2008, David worked as 2D classic animator, as well as creative designer of the short-film project called “En Agosto” (In August), written and directed by Andres Barrientos and Carlos Reyes. En Agosto proved to be very popular and successful, receiving many short-film international awards.
Since 2010, he has been actively participating in the visual arts scene in several countries around America, Europe and Australia, receiving notable awards for his work. Some of these were two honorable mentions in 2010 and 2012 at Galeria Casa Cuadrada from Colombia. Since David’s arrival to Melbourne where he now resides, he has enjoyed the opportunity to get involved in the grassroots artistic scene through several artistic exhibitions. Some of David’s works have been exhibited at galleries such as Cambridge Studio Gallery, Without Pier Gallery and Gallery #9. David is also exhibiting in the Wyndham Art Prize 2018.
